Dataset Summary
| Title | Bile effect on the profile of produced extracellular vesicles of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum. |
| Description | Bacterial extracellular vesicles (EVs), lipid bilayered particles ranging from 20 to 400 nm, are secreted by bacteria and carry cargo including proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. EVs composition varies between Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and they contain pathogen recognition receptors that facilitate host interactions. This study utilized Lactobacillus plantarum as a model organism to investigate stress response mechanisms. Using size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), we isolated L. plantarum EVs (LpEVs) following MISEV guidelines. When bacteria were exposed to 0.25% bile, the resulting LpEVs increased in size and protein content, notably for proteins linked to bile metabolism. Our findings suggest that variability in LpEV profiles may act as an early stress response mechanism, providing insights into bacterial adaptability even prior to observable changes in the parent organism. |
