Dataset Summary
Title | Expanding the biological role of lipo-chitooligosaccharides and chitooligosaccharides in Laccaria bicolor growth and development |
Description | Fungal lipo-chitooligosaccharides (LCOs) are primarily defined as the molecules that mediate the establishment of symbiotic relationships between fungi and plants. However, recent studies have demonstrated that these polymers have distinct effects in the growth and development of fungi with diverse lifestyles, thus prompting new research efforts focused in understanding the emerging roles that these molecules have on fungi. In this study, we employed liquid chromatography coupled to high resolution tandem mass spectrometry to analyze global proteome changes of the ectomycorrhiza forming-fungi Laccaria bicolor when grown in the presence of exogenous sulfated and non-sulfated LCOs (sLCOs or nsLCOs, respectively), as well as the chitooligomers, chitotetraose (CO4) and chitooactose (CO8) 21-days post-induction. Physiological observations in LCOs and COs-treated samples highlighted a state of repressed growth when compared to controls. Quantitative proteomics analysis supported these observations by revealing substantial abundance alterations of proteins involved in controlling different aspects of polarized growth in L. bicolor. |
