In this project investigates how cells survive and proliferate in the absence of oxygen and/or under nutrient-limited conditions. We focus on the metabolic rewiring underlying this adaptation, which is characteristic of stem cells but absent in differentiated cells. We also examine whether this mechanism is evolutionarily conserved in ancient organisms adapted to low-oxygen environments.
