Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major cause of global mortality, yet only a subset of long-term smokers develop the disease, suggesting protective mechanisms that may fail in susceptible individuals. We profiled induced sputum using untargeted proteomics to identify airway-localized biomarkers and pathways linked to COPD presence and severity.
