The maize plants were grown in culture chambers (16/8 hours day/night, 25/22ºC, 50% humidity) until 15 days, when the third leaf was fully developed. Then, for drought treatment, irrigation was completely stopped for 10 days when the samples were collected, in parallel to control plants that were irrigated for the same period.
