Fumarate accumulation during renal fibrosis may be involved in renal inflammation by conferring succination to certain proteins to influence intracellular signaling. We applied a Desthiobiotin-Iodoacetamide (DBIA) probe as a competitive probe for covalently labelling fumarate and combined with a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) platform to identify the modified proteins.
