Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) is an enzyme involved in the breakdown of triacylglycerols into fatty acids, a catabolic pathway called lipolysis. Out of all mammalian cells, adipocytes express the highest levels of HSL. To explore the roles of HSL beyond adipocyte lipolysis, we performed transcriptional profiling in a human adipocyte model with siRNA-mediated depletion of HSL We observed that expression of genes involved in extracellular matrix remodeling were reduced. The project aimed at determining whether changes in mRNA levels translated into changes in secreted protein levels.
