the shell of P. viridis was analyzed and two shell layers with different morphologies and polymorphs were observed, which includes nacre and myostracum strongly attached by adductor muscles to the interior of the shell surface. In order to understand whether these two shell layers contain different set of shell matrix proteins (SMPs), a parallel proteomics analysis of SMPs in the two shell layers was performed. A combination of LC-MS/MS analysis with the mantle transcriptome dataset searching resulted in the identification of a total of more than 300 proteins from P. viridis shell.
