Dataset Summary
TitleThe Landscape of Nuclear tRNAs Import into Human Mitochondria Reveals VDAC as a General Gateway
DescriptionMitochondria are critical sites for oxidative respiration and material exchange within mammalian cells. The mitochondrial genome encodes 22 types of tRNA and is responsible for the transcription and translation of 13 proteins involved in the oxidative respiratory chain. During the translation process, the tRNAs encoded by the mitochondrial genome decode 64 types of codons to ensure proper protein translation. The wobble hypothesis posits that mitochondrial tRNAs recognize codons through non-strict base pairing and specific modifications on the anticodon, thereby facilitating accurate decoding. However, it remains unclear whether nuclear-encoded tRNAs can enter the mitochondria and participate in mitochondrial translation.Existing studies have demonstrated that in lower organisms, the import of tRNAs into mitochondria requires the assistance of several cytosolic proteins to guide them to the mitochondrial surface, where they form RNA import complexes (RICs) with mitochondrial inner and outer membrane proteins
