Dataset Summary
| Title | Complex human milk oligosaccharides restrict cancer cell metastasis and induce apoptosis |
| Description | Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) promote infant health by influencing the gut microbiome, strengthening the immune system, and potentially reducing the risk of infections. Unfortunately, complex HMOs have rarely been studied in cancers. This study examined the functional effects of the complex HMOs in blood, brain, lung, liver, breast, kidney, colon, and neuron cells to support human breastfeeding in avoiding malignancies. The influence of HMOs on cancer cell metastatic features, such as morphology, viability, mortality, adhesion, migration, and invasion, was also investigated. The eight cell lines derived from various organs were treated with HMOs at IC50 concentrations. Protein-protein interactions and pathway analysis from the proteomics approach revealed that HMOs can induce apoptosis and limit metabolic activities, resulting in cell death. Moreover, complex HMOs inhibited cancer cell adhesion, migration, invasion, and proliferation. |
