Title	Discovery of tomato UDP-glucosyltransferases involved in bioactive jasmonate homeostasis using limited proteolysis-coupled mass spectrometry
Description	Jasmonic acid (JA) is the precursor of the plant hormone, jasmonoyl-isoleucine, with roles in defences and development. Molecular signalling pathways of JA are well-understood, but it is still not fully understood how JA is metabolised. We used limited proteolysis-coupled mass spectrometry to search for jasmonic acid (JA) interacting proteins in tomato with the aim of finding missing components of JA metabolism. We identified several UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGTs) that might be involved in direct glycosylation of JA, a metabolic step that is catalyzed by yet unknown enzymes. Two of the candidates from our dataset were confirmed to glycosylate JA in vitro to create JA-glucosyl ester (JA-Glc). JA-Glc was shown to have less biological activity than JA, suggesting that the discovered UGTs may be involved in inactivating JA for storage or catabolism.
