Dataset Summary
Title | Proteome in regrowth cycles of sugarcane: Absence of proteins to tolerate adverse growth conditions may be related with the reduction in agricultural productivity |
Description | Increasing the longevity of sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) plantations without decreasing agricultural productivity is one of the main objectives of the sugarcane plantation. Thus, the proteome of axillary buds of the RB966928 cultivar was analyzed in current study to investigate if there is change of number of proteins in different cutting. The proteome in axillary buds from cv. RB966928 with tryptic digestion and ultra-high performance liquid chromatograph ACQUITY UPLC M-Class System coupled to a time-of-flight high resolution mass spectrometer identified 122 proteins of which 97 and 95 proteins were detected in the first and fifth cut, respectively. In first cut, 27 proteins were exclusively detected, while in the fifth cut only 25 proteins were exclusively detected. The detection of a differential proteome in axillary buds of the first and fifth cut in the initial stage of sprouting showed little quantitative change in protein number from first to fifth cut, and essential proteins for the plant growth beside proteins to prevent misfolding of polypeptides and assembly of unfolded polypeptides generated under stress conditions in order to tolerate adverse growth conditions in the first cut. In plants of the fifth cut, 40% of the proteins exclusively detected in the axillary buds are related with responses in stress situations and contaminants action, indicative of that environmental stress and/or infections by heavy metal and pathogens may reduce the growth showing less robust plants and more susceptible to abiotic and biotic field stresses, decreasing agricultural productivity of the sugarcane plantation with advancement of the cutting age. |
